New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The New York Yankees (76-56) and Los Angeles Angels (66-67) close out a three-game series at Angel Stadium Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 7:07 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Yankees vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Gerritt Cole is the projected starting pitcher for the Yankees. He is 13-6 with a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 12.2 K/9, and 2.0 BB/9 in 148 IP over 24 starts.

  • Current Angels batters own a whiff-heavy .526 OPS against him.
  • Allowed 7 earned runs in a July 29 start at the Tampa Bay Rays and then spent time on the COVID-19 list. Has allowed 1R in 17 2/3 since, including a start at home against the Angels.

LHP Packy Naughton (0-0, 1.69 ERA) will make his first career start. Naughton has allowed 1 ER in 5 1/3 IP across two relief appearances.

  • The 25-year-old went 4 1/3 IP in long relief after being promoted Friday from Triple-A, so he should be able to provide decent length for the Halos if needed.
  • Has clocked a 4.76 ERA over 56 2/3 IP in a swingman role for Triple-A Salt Lake this season.

Angels 5, Yankees 4

Money line (ML)

New York won 13 straight games before having that run snapped by the Oakland Athletics Saturday, and now it has lost four in a row.

The Angels have won three consecutive games. The Halos have been solid at home over the last couple of months and against good competition.

Cole tossed 104 pitches at Oakland Friday and could be a little flattened out in working ahead of an inconsistent New York bullpen. The lefty Naughton could set up some lanes for an L.A. bullpen which has been at its best of late when facing righty bats.

There is certainly risk in L.A.’s first-time starter but the Yanks are closing out a long, three-city road trip. They are just 7-14 in road-series finales. The risk is adequately rewarded here.

TAKE LOS ANGELES (+230).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Yankees have played more games decided by 2 or fewer runs than any other team.

Consider the 2-plus play alongside the above wager if you want to cut the risk of taking the Angels outright. Mix and match in equal half measures or perhaps in a 1-to-2 ratio, based on what fits your tolerance.

The run line play would be ANGELS +2.5 (-103).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Angels sport decent numbers in their home yard. The Yankees still have been flying under the radar with their batting talent and quality of contact.

An outward breeze and a fair amount of humidity are in the weather forecast. If Cole is indeed off a click or can only go 5-6 innings an Angels win could still net a double-digit total without a stretch.

TAKE THE OVER 8.5 (-122).
