Previewing Tuesday’s New York Mets at Washington Nationals sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Mets (4-7) will visit the Washington Nationals (3-4) on Tuesday night for the first of a two-game series. It’ll get underway at 7:05 p.m. ET from Nationals Park. We analyze the Mets-Nationals betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Mets at Nationals: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Steven Matz vs. LHP Patrick Corbin

Matz is 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA so far this season, striking out 10 batters in 11 1/3 innings (two starts).

  • Although his 1-5 career record against the Nationals is nothing to write home about, Matz has a respectable 3.41 ERA and averages 9.0 K/9.
  • Matz is much better in the first half of the season than the second, owning a 20-20 record with a 3.63 ERA in his career through the first 81 games of a season.

Corbin has only started one game this season, but he pitched well. He allowed one run – a solo home run – in 6.1 innings with eight strikeouts and two hits surrendered.

  • The Mets have had Corbin’s number throughout his career, going 2-5 against New York with an uninspiring 4.46 ERA in 13 starts.
  • Corbin’s career record is 38-29 at home with a 3.31 ERA compared to his 32-32 mark on the road where he’s pitched to a 4.30 ERA – nearly a full run more when away from home.

Prediction

Nationals 5, Mets 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Nats will have Corbin on the hill at home tonight, which ups their chances of coming away with a win. However, they haven’t played since this past Thursday due to postponements, so they might have to knock off some rust.

At Nationals (-150), there is some risk that comes with betting on Washington to win outright. Instead, I’d rather PASS and look toward the run line to get a better value.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

BetMGM currently prices the Nationals -1 (-110) and the Mets +1 (-110). There are other alternate run lines available such as the Nats -1.5 (+200), which I’d feel comfortable betting on. The Mets are coming off a strong win over the Braves, but if Corbin can give the Nationals six-plus innings, they’ll have a great chance to knock off New York.

I’d bet the NATIONALS -1.5 (+135).

Over/Under (O/U)

The over/under is 8.5 runs with each side of the bet carrying a line of -110. The total has gone under in four of the Nationals’ last five games and that’s been the common trend across baseball this season.

Corbin should be able to keep the Yoenis Cespedes-less Mets in check, while Matz is no slouch himself on the other side for New York. I’d bet the UNDER 8.5 (-110) tonight.
