Mets at Marlins: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Robert Gsellman at RHP Jordan Yamamoto

Gsellman in 2020: 0-0, 9.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP in 3 IP (2 G, 1 GS)

  • The righty is being thrust back into the rotation with Jacob deGrom injured and Steven Matz losing his grip on a starting spot. Gsellman probably won’t pitch too deep into this contest.
  • In a full 2019 season as a reliever, he was saddled with a 4.66 ERA in 63 2/3 innings.

Yamamoto in 2020: 0-0. 9.82 ERA, 2.05 WHIP, 9:2 K:BB in 2 GS (7 1/3 IP)

  • Career at home: 6.00 ERA, 5 HR allowed in 43 innings
  • However, he has spun a 3.00 ERA in two career starts against the Mets, with a 16:4 K:BB.

Prediction

Mets 5, Marlins 3

Each team has a long list of injury and illness concerns. Neither starting pitcher does it for me, but I prefer the Mets’ lineup, currently paced by breakout post-hype prospect Dominic Smith (.296/.375/.741 with six homers in 64 plate appearances).

Moneyline (ML)

  • Mets (-143)
  • Marlins (+130)

PASS on the moneylines. Use the run line for better returns on the Mets.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

  • Mets -1 (-121)
  • Marlins +1 (+100)

I still don’t like working with whole-numbered run lines, but BetMGM allows you to work with other spreads. BET Mets -1.5 (+105).

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Mets run line -1.5 (+105) would return a profit of $10.50.

Over/Under (O/U)

  • Over 9 (-110)
  • Under 9 (-110)

The outlook for runs scored is too close for me to care about either equally juiced line. PASS.
