Mets at Braves: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Rick Porcello vs. LHP Sean Newcomb

Porcello was lit up in his first 2020 start on Sunday to the tune of six earned runs in two innings in a 14-1 loss to these very Braves. He has started five games against Atlanta in his career and has a 3-2 record with a 4.85 ERA.

Newcomb pitched a no-decision in his first outing this season in Sunday’s game against Porcello and Mets. He worked just 3 1/3 innings, only giving up one earned run in the start.

Prediction

Braves 8, Mets 4

Moneyline (ML)

Not only did Porcello get shelled in his first game against the Braves (-134) but so did the Mets (+120) bullpen. We could get a similar outcome this meeting as Porcello struggled last season with a 5.52 ERA, and has a 27.00 ERA after his first start. Plus, New York has the sixth-highest bullpen ERA in the MLB.

The Braves lead the season series, 2-1, and 6-2 in their last eight games against the Mets at home. We LIKE BRAVES (-134) on the moneyline.

New to sports betting? A $134 bet on the Braves earns a profit of $100 if Atlanta wins outright.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

There’s not enough value on the Braves (-1.5, +140) to take it. Eight of the last nine Mets-Braves games have been decided by two runs or fewer. A two-run win for Atlanta would cash the ticket but I’d need +160 or better to play it. PASS ON THE RUNE LINE.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total of 10.5 is a smidge high for my liking. The Over (-115) is slightly more expensive, meaning the market is leaning toward that side, so that’s where I lean. I am not going to play it though because my projected score isn’t far enough over the BetMGM’s projected total.
