The New York Knicks (3-3) and Atlanta Hawks (3-5) meet Wednesday at State Farm Arena with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Knicks vs. Hawks odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Knicks won 2 of 3 last season

The Knicks lost the third game of a 4-game road trip on Monday, 109-97 to the Houston Rockets as a 1.5-point road favorite while the Under (217.5) hit.  G Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 29 points and added 8 assists. Despite C Karl-Anthony Towns grabbing 19 rebounds, the Knicks were outrebounded 50-39.

The Hawks lost for the fifth time in 6 games on Monday night, falling 123-93 to the Boston Celtics. They failed to cover as a 10-point home underdog and the Under (232) cashed. Leading scorer G Trae Young exited in the third quarter with a right rib strain, finishing with just 2 points and 6 assists on 1-for-10 shooting in 23 minutes. F Jalen Johnson stepped up, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Knicks at Hawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Knicks 113, Hawks 102

Moneyline

PASS.

As much as I like the Knicks to win this game, I’m not about to bet $275 to win $100 on that happening. I’ll take my bet to the spread and total.

Against the spread

BET KNICKS -6.5 (-115).

I’m leaning toward the Knicks to cover here. New York has covered the spread in 3 of their last 4 games against Atlanta and is 5-1 ATS in their previous 6 road games facing the Hawks.

The Knicks are also 2-1 ATS in their last 3 games, while Atlanta has been tough to trust, sitting at 1-7 ATS and 0-5 ATS at home. If Young can’t play, Atlanta’s offense may struggle again, as they scored just 40 points in the second half against Boston.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 225.5 (-115).

The Knicks’ strong start hit a snag with a 12-point home loss to the Rockets on Monday. Coach Tom Thibodeau had already stretched his starters, with 3 playing over 40 minutes in just the 6th game of the season. The fatigue showed, as the team shot only 38% overall and 39% from 3, with just 3 bench points.

The Hawks have struggled ATS, though their games tend to hit the over (7-1 O/U, 4-1 at home). Young’s rib injury cast further doubt, as Atlanta’s offense faltered against Boston after his exit. Without Young’s 27 points and 11.7 assists per game, Atlanta’s chances to hit 100 points look slim. The under seems the safer call here.
