With the Jacksonville Jaguars having hired Urban Meyer as their next head coach, perhaps the New York Jets did not want to be left out of the news cycle. The team has agreed to hire Robert Saleh as their next head coach according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Jets are hiring former 49ers’ DC Robert Saleh as their next head coach, per league sources. The two sides now have reached agreement on a five-year deal.

Saleh became a hot name on the head coaching circuit last season as he guided the San Francisco 49ers defense and helped the organization reach Super Bowl LIV. But having missed out on the hiring cycle a year ago, Saleh now has his first head coaching job. Players such as cornerback Richard Sherman were campaigning for Saleh all season long, and the defensive coordinator did keep the 49ers defense in good for during what was a down season for the team.
Saleh inherits a roster that does have some holes, but owns the second-overall pick in the upcoming draft, six picks in the top 100 selections, and a good deal of cap space.
