The Giants concluded the 2022 season with a 9-7-1 record in Brian Daboll’s debut year as head coach, advancing to the NFC Divisional Round before being eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles. New York added TE Darren Waller (via trade from the Las Vegas Raiders) to give QB Daniel Jones another go-to target in the passing game this season.
Expectations are high for the Lions in 2023 after they narrowly fell short of making the playoffs in 2022 with a 9-8 record. Detroit is looking to take another step forward with Dan Campbell at the helm and QB Jared Goff under center.
The preseason is only 3 games for each team that doesn’t play in the Hall of Fame Game, so starters will get limited — if any — playing time.

Both teams are expected to take a step forward in 2023, but Daboll proved last year that he’s trying to win preseason contests. Daboll went 2-1 in the preseason in 2022, while Campbell has produced a 1-5 record in his first 2 preseason. That’s good enough for me to take the GIANTS (-150).
Against the spread
Even though I have the Giants securing the road victory, LIONS +3 (-110) is how I’d wager on the spread. Starters won’t get much playing time, but Detroit could deploy rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs and WR Jameson Williams to get them live-action reps ahead of the regular season.

Over/Under
OVER 35.5 (-110) is the play despite it being the preseason. Both of these offenses should be improved this season, and each team needs snaps with their new weapons.
The Giants tallied 23-plus points in each of their 3 preseason games in 2022, and the Lions logged 23-plus points in 2 of their 3 exhibition games last year.
