An uncertain 2020 offseason is getting set to begin for the Philadelphia 76ers as they get set to begin their quest to retool the roster after a tough 2019-20 season. They won’t have too much money for free agents, so the trade route makes the most sense.
There will always be trade suggestions and trade proposals as the trade machine gets a lot of use during this time. Philadelphia has an awkward roster after making a couple of questionable moves in the 2019 offseason so there is always a way to relieve some of the issues with this team.
A new trade suggestion from Bleacher Report has the Sixers acquiring LaMarcus Aldridge and Patty Mills from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Al Horford and Matisse Thybulle.
B/R on the deal:
You might want to cut this deal down early by arguing LaMarcus Aldridge would be a terrible fit alongside Joel Embiid, but how could he be any worse than Al Horford was?
Mills isn’t the pick-and-roll maestro the Sixers need, but his energy and shooting off the bench—not to mention championship experience—would address several needs in the Sixers’ rotation.
Finally, though Philadelphia adds $7 million in 2020-21 salary, it could make moves on the margins to diminish its tax bill before the end of the year and then sigh in relief as $37.2 million comes off the books at season’s end.
It would be tough to justify an Aldridge trade, but as they mentioned, could he fit on this roster worse than Horford can? Aldridge is one of the better midrange shooters in the league and he also shot 38.9% from deep on 3.0 attempts this season so there is a lot that he can offer the position. On top of that, his deal expires in 2021 so it would only be for one season and the Sixers get out of the nightmarish Horford deal. [lawrence-related id=38632,38629,38623]
