New Packers WR Christian Watson will wear No. 82

WR Christian Watson, the Packers’ second-round pick, will wear No. 82 in Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers’ highest draft pick at wide receiver in 20 years will get a new number with his new green-and-gold team.

David Moore wore No. 82 for one game in Green Bay last season. The last Packers draft pick to wear No. 82 was J’Mon Moore, a fourth-round pick in 2018. Darrius Shepherd, another receiver from North Dakota State, wore No. 82 in 2020.

Watson wore No. 1 for all five of his seasons at North Dakota State. That number is unofficially retired in Green Bay for Curly Lambeau. Watson wore No. 5 in high school. That number is unofficially retired in Green Bay for Paul Hornung.

The Packers traded up in the second round to get Watson, an elite athlete with a unique skillset that could be perfect for Matt LaFleur’s offense. He may also get a chance to return kicks as a rookie.

Watson is the third rookie to get his new number. Quay Walker will wear No. 7. Devonte Wyatt will wear No. 95.
