I had the opportunity to sit down and get to know the new MSU Women’s Soccer Coach, Jeff Hosler, former Grand Valley State head coach. We discussed why he chose to come to MSU, his coaching style, and challenges he might face.
Q1: You have had a very successful career as the head coach at Grand Valley, what about MSU inspired you to make the change?
Hosler: I wanted the opportunity to come into this program and be able to make a significant change. I feel that my coaching style and tendencies will help improve this program and take it to the next level.
Q2: What do you see as one of your most challenging obstacles?
Hosler: Getting this group that hasn’t had much success in terms of wins and losses to learn how to work through those tough moments in matches that define those results.
Q3: How would you describe your coaching style?
Hosler: Everything i do is built around relationships and personal connections. I think the better I know each individual player, the more apparent it’s going to be how they need to be coached. I can’t coach each player the same way, but I can hold all of them to the same standard. I spend the time to explain why we are doing something and give them background information to know how beneficial it is.
