Mel Tucker hasn’t coached a game for Michigan State yet, as he just joined from Colorado this offseason after Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio stepped down to take a new role in the athletic department.
Yet Tucker is already connecting with the East Lansing community via a gift of food to local front line workers this week.
Tucker and his family picked up the tab for dinner for caregivers at Sparrow Hospital, and delivered the food with a video message to the front-line workers who are treating people with coronavirus and other diseases in the city.

On Thursday, Tucker and his family bought dinner from Arcadia Smokehouse in Lansing for the night shift caregivers at Sparrow Hospital.
“I just wanted to send a little thank-you dinner out tonight to all the night-shift nurses and doctors at Sparrow, from Arcadia Smokehouse,” Tucker said in a video released by Sparrow. “I deeply appreciate all that you are doing to help our community. Thank you again so much, be safe and Go Green.”
