New Jerod Mayo update says ‘pump the brakes’ on job title change

Jerod Mayo’s job title may not change, but his responsibilities could.

New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo may not have a new job title after all. Late in January, it was announced that Mayo would be staying with the organization, with the possibility of him moving to defensive coordinator.

However, that may not be the case, according to the Boston Herald’s Karen Guregian.

Mayo will get a pay raise, and he could have a different title with the organization. However, his overall title may not change.

Mayo has served the last couple seasons as inside linebackers coach for the Patriots. He has seen his stock rise since he took over the position. He has also gotten some coaching interviews, as he pads his resume with the Patriots.

The former linebacker most recently was scheduled to interview with the Carolina Panthers, but that interview was ultimately canceled once he agreed to stay in New England.

It will be intriguing to see what his responsibilities are, as the Patriots look to undergo a reset for the 2023 season.
