A new mock draft from our sister site For The Win! put together by Bryan Kalbrosky has the San Antonio Spurs taking champion University of Connecticut combo guard Stephon Castle. A popular pick in recent mocks to go in the range of the Spurs’ two lottery picks at Nos. 4 and 8, the former Husky wing is one of the best defenders in his class, but also a bit of a project on the other end of the court when it comes to his jump shot.
Still, he can finish well at the cup, has solid floor vision, and reportedly prefers to play at the point, but it’s his defense that is the main attraction. “For a team that has an exciting future with Victor Wembanyama as a defensive anchor, they can solidify that identity by selecting Castle,” writes Kalbrosky.
“The NCAA champion and Big East Freshman of the Year allowed 0.69 points per defensive chance … which was the second-best of any player included on the latest consensus big board.”

“He also contested 75.8% of opposing jumpers,” adds the FTW analyst, which, taken together, is a fairly solid endorsement for the Spurs to take Castle.
