Everyone wants to know whether or not Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will return and play an 18th season in 2021. He recently said he hasn’t given it any thought.
New receivers coach Shawn Jefferson actually has been in contact with Fitzgerald. However, he isn’t any help on the subject because he doesn’t know anything more than the rest of us.
“When (the team) announced that I accepted the job here, he texted me and said, ‘Hey coach, looking forward to meeting with you, talking with you,’ stuff like that,” Jefferson told media members on Tuesday when he was introduced. “That was the extent of our conversation so I have no insight of what’s he’s going to do, where he’s leaning, anything like that.”
Jefferson is in the waiting game like the rest of us, though he will get to speak with Fitzgerald later.
He doesn’t try to bother his players much this time of year.
“This is the offseason period,” he said. “I try not to bother guys. As we all know, this kid is the ultimate professional and I’m just looking forward to talking with him.”
So we continue to wait. The longer it goes, it feels like the more likely it is that he retires.
