After a day of teases and a year of knowing what was coming, Marvel and Second Dinner have finally announced their card battler project, Marvel Snap. It’s a fast-paced, high-skill game with unique mechanics surrounding both the moment to moment gameplay and the metalayer. It pulls from the entire Marvel multiverse to give you endless versions of cards to play with, and the titular Snap mechanic lets you gamble your ranking points in each match.
Three minutes per game and a mobile-first development strategy means it’s as slick as possible. Every card is earnable in-game for free, and monetization mostly comes down to different versions and looks for cards. As you play cards they level up, gaining ever-more-impressive visual affects – frame popping, 3D elements, shiny logos, the works. Here’s the trailer.
Everyone urges you to head to MarvelSnap.com to sign up for an Android-devices beta. The game will be on all the various mobile platforms, plus PC, on launch. No word yet on when exactly that will be, but given how long this thing has been worked on, it can’t be too far off if they’re now announcing.
We’ve got a big preview and interview with Second Dinner co-founder and ex-Hearthstone game director Ben Brode about what makes Marvel Snap special, if you’d like to read more.
