New bracketology projects Auburn to play in New York

The Tigers are projected as one of five SEC teams to make the tournament.

March is drawing closer, which means a new version of ESPN reporter Joe Lunardi’s bracketology is among us.

The newest edition of Lunardi’s famed projections, which came out on Tuesday, has Auburn as a No. 6 seed — this time, the Tigers are projected to play against the Maryland Terrapins in the East region, who are pinned as the No. 11 seed in the region. Under the projection, Auburn would be set to face the No. 3 UConn Huskies or the No. 14 Colgate Raiders should it win the initial matchup.

As it stands, Auburn is fourth in the SEC behind Alabama, Texas A&M and Tennessee. Lunardi projects the SEC as having five entrants in the tournament, with three SEC teams — Kentucky, Texas A&M and Florida — as being among the first eight teams to not make the tournament. Auburn’s biggest rival in Alabama is projected to be the one-seed for the East region, which could see the Tigers face off with the Crimson Tide if the two were to go far enough into the bracket. Fans will get a preview of that potential matchup when the two teams face off on Feb. 11 and March 1.

The NCAA Tournament will begin on March 14.
