The Nevada Wolf Pack Hosts FCS Opponent UC Davis In 2020 Season Opener
The Nevada Wolf Pack will open up the 2020 season at home as they take on the UC Davis Aggies of the Football Championship Subdivision. The game between the Wolf Pack and the Aggies is set for August 29th in Reno, Nevada.
The Wolf Pack are looking to start the 2020 season on a winning note and will lean on the talents of starting quarterback Carson Strong to lead the Nevada offense. In 2019, Strong completed 63 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,335 yards and 11 touchdowns against only seven interceptions.
Strong will be throwing to a talented bunch of wide receivers in Romeo Doubs and Elijah Cooks while handing the ball off to a talented back like junior Toa Taua. The Nevada Wolf Pack looks to field one of the more talented offenses in the Mountain West conference. Because of the talented offense and a defense that has some talent along the defensive front, the Wolf Pack could be a potential dark horse to win the West division of the Mountain West conference this season.
The Wolf Pack are taking on a UC Davis team that finished the 2019 season with a 5-7 record. The Aggies were picked to finish second in the Big Sky preseason poll in 2019 but finished with a 3-5 conference record and tied for sixth place in the Big Sky.
The Aggies, whose head coach is former Colorado and Boise State head coach Dan Hawkins, were third last year in the Big Sky in passing offense as they average 309 yards passing per game in 2019. The Aggies were able to run the ball effectively in 2019 as well thanks to running back Ulonzo Gilliam Jr,.
Gilliam led the Big Sky conference in rushing yards in 2019 as he ran for 1,249 yards and scored seven rushing touchdowns. In addition to leading the Big Sky in rushing yards, Gilliam also led the Big Sky in all-purpose yards as he totaled 1,603 all-purpose yards in 2019. Gilliam is a talented weapon for the Aggies that the Wolf Pack defense will have to account for when these teams play in August.
The Wolf Pack will be looking to start the 2020 season with a 1-0 record when they take on UC Davis. The Aggies feature a talented offense with a few playmakers that could make the contest between Nevada and UC Davis interesting. But the difference in this contest is Nevada’s talented defensive line as that unit should be able to curtail the Aggie offense and give the Wolf Pack a 1-0 start to the 2020 season.
