It may have only been a preseason game, but the Nets let everyone who didn’t already believe in them know on Friday: Brooklyn is no joke. In his first game back in Boston since he left the Celtics for the Nets, Kyrie Irving scored 17 points on 7-or-15 shooting (3-for-6 from 3-point territory), grabbed seven boards, dished five assists and registered two steals over 28 minutes in Brooklyn’s 113-89 win.
While Irving did a bit of everything — and the big story coming in was his return to Boston — Kevin Durant, to no one’s surprise, stole the show. Brooklyn’s star forward led the team with 25 points on 9-for-16 shooting (2-for-5 from deep) and had six rebounds in 27 minutes of work, after having played 24 minutes in Sunday’s win over the Washington Wizards.

Caris LeVert finished third in scoring for the Nets after missing their only other preseason game. His 18 points off the bench came on 6-for-13 shooting (2-for-3 from long-range). LeVert logged 21 minutes, while Jarrett Allen played 17 minutes off the bench and finished with a team-high 11 rebounds to go with his nine points.
