Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant has been called various nicknames in his career such as “Durantula”, “KD”, and a host of others. However, one of the names that has stuck with him throughout his career has been “slim reaper”. This nickname is in reference to Durant’s slender frame and how thin he has been over the course of his NBA tenure.
Even though “slim reaper” is a cool nickname to most people, Durant hasn’t been the biggest fan of it. He told CBS Sports in 2014 that the nickname was okay, but that he liked KD better. Despite his feelings, the “slim reaper” nickname has stuck around after all these years and he seems to have come to peace with it.
Durant is a borderline NBA MVP candidate this season because of his averaging 30 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 55.9% from the field as he leads the Nets to a 17-12 record. Durant explained the origin of his “slim reaper” as part of a Q&A for the Boardroom:
