Before the Philadelphia 76ers moved Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets to finally end that saga, there was a big stalemate between the 25-year old and the franchise. The Sixers wanted Simmons to show up for work so they did everything they could to try and get him to do so.
They fined the 3-time All-Star guard roughly $20 million during his short time in Philadelphia during the 2021-22 season before moving him to the Nets in the James Harden deal, and now that Simmons is away from Philadelphia, he and his camp will file a grievance to challenge the Sixers to try and recover the money he lost.
The grievance – which will now go to an arbitration process – was shared with the team, NBA and National Basketball Players Association late this week, sources tell ESPN. The NBPA is supporting Simmons in the attempt to reclaim his salary.

Good for Simmons to try and reclaim his money, but on the flip side, if he would have just cooperated with the Sixers, this wouldn’t have been an issue. When he opened up about his mental health, they offered him their own team specialists and when he turned them down to go see somebody else, the team asked him who he was seeing and he didn’t offer up that information.
This will be interesting to see how all of this goes down.
