Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie says ‘we took our foot off the gas’ after beating Jazz

Spencer Dinwiddie says that the Nets took their foot off the gas in Sunday’s win over the Utah Jazz.

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has been one of the veterans on the Nets since he was traded to Brooklyn in the Kyrie Irving deal. During that time, he has imparted his wisdom on the younger Nets plenty of times. However, he had to keep it real when it came to their last-second win over the Utah Jazz.

“Oh, I mean, I think in general, we took our foot off the gas a little bit obviously,” Dinwiddie said after dropping 17 points and 12 assists in Sunday’s 111-110 win over the Jazz. Brooklyn built a 23-point lead in the fourth quarter only for it to evaporate in under 10 minutes. “We let him get in the bonus with like nine and a half minutes. So, at that point in time, you know, you got a team that’s, you know, kind of young, figuring things out but you know, they know they can just kind of put their heads down and drive.”

Utah was able to get anything it wanted in the paint as they scored 60 points near or at the rim on 30-of-50 shooting (60%). Talen Horton-Tucker (32 points) and Lauri Markkanen (23 points) were able to get to the rim at will and both were instrumental in the Jazz’s furious comeback in the final period.
