The Brooklyn Nets are going into the 2023-24 season with the goal of making it to the playoffs and winning a series or two while they’re at it. It appears that one of the players that Brooklyn will be relying on for next season should be one of the more coveted free-agents next summer.

According to Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie ranks 21st in terms of players who are currently slated to be free-agents after next season ends. Dinwiddie, 30, has one year left on his current contract for this upcoming season at $20.3 million.

Dinwiddie will be competing with Ben Simmons for the starting point guard job when training camp begins in the fall unless head coach Jacque Vaughn decides to use Simmons as a forward in an effort to have more shooting and versatility in the starting lineup. Here’s why Bailey has Dinwiddie ranked where he does on the list:

“Spencer Dinwiddie is far from the most efficient scorer in the league. He’s had an above-average true shooting percentage in just two of his nine seasons. The last time he was above-average was 2018-19.

But his willingness to get up threes in bunches and to draw defenses inside before kicking out to teammates has made him an effective offensive engine nevertheless.

The last two times he was the clear lead playmaker (2019-20 with the Brooklyn Nets and again after he was traded there last season), his team scored significantly more points per 100 possessions when he was on the floor.

Inconsistency and the fact that he’ll be 31 next offseason are mild concerns, but teams searching for offensive help in 2024-25 could look past both.”
