Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie on assist milestone: ‘shout out Joe Harris’

Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie made sure to recognize Detroit Pistons guard Joe Harris when acknowledging his Nets assists milestone.

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has been a valuable player in the NBA since his first stint in Brooklyn where he showed his ability to score the ball and pass it as well. He also recently achieved a milestone within Nets history that has him in the company of some of the greats to have played for the franchise.

“Shout out Joe Harris,” Dinwiddie said after putting up 14 points and 11 assists in Saturday’s 112-97 win over the Miami Heat. To be clear, Dinwiddie moved into fifth place on the Nets’ all-time assists list on Wednesday when he dropped 26 points and 12 assists in a 147-145 overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks. With the 11 assists on Saturday, Dinwiddie now has 1,784 assists as a member of the Nets.

“I think he (Harris) probably got more of them than anybody,” Dinwiddie said by acknowledging how much Detroit Pistons guard Joe Harris has helped Dinwiddie achieve the milestone. “Him and Jarrett Allen from from the past group and then I would say probably Nic (Claxton) from this group,” Dinwiddie continued.

Dinwiddie was also told that he was one of three players in Nets history to have 1,500 assists and 500 three-pointers made, the other two being Nets legends Jason Kidd and Vince Carter. “Oh, it just means I’m old, man,” Dinwiddie quipped. He is one of the oldest players on Brooklyn’s roster, but he is only 30 years old and won’t turn 31 until April.

Both of these milestones show that Dinwiddie has been around for awhile, but that has also been productive for a long time. With Brooklyn still missing some key pieces, they need the “old” man to keep going.
