Nets sign guard Tyler Johnson

After releasing Theo Pinson on Tuesday, the Brooklyn Nets have added a combo guard to their roster.

Following the Nets’ request for waivers on Theo Pinson on Tuesday, Brooklyn has added a new piece to the roster: Tyler Johnson. The team announced its signing of the guard on Wednesday.

This is the second time the Nets have gone after Johnson, though last time they weren’t able to reel him in. He signed a four-year, $50 million offer sheet with the Nets back in 2016, but stayed in Miami when the Heat matched the deal in order to retain him.

Johnson was last with the Phoenix Suns, logging 31 games before he was released in February. Coming into 2019-20, he was a 36.4% 3-point shooter, but Johnson shot well below his average this season. He only knocked down 28.9% of the 3-point attempts he took for the Suns this year after only making 32.1% of the 3-pointers he took for Phoenix in 13 games in 2018-19.

With the move, the Nets now have 17 players on their roster, including their two-way players, Chris Chiozza and Jeremiah Martin
