Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton finished tied for ninth-place in the Defensive Player of the Year voting that was announced recently by the NBA. The award eventually was awarded to Memphis Grizzlies center Jaren Jackson Jr. after he finished with more blocks per game than any other player in the league.
The voting for the award was based on a point system where a player is awarded five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote, and one point for a third-place vote. With that being said, Jackson Jr. finished with 391 points and Claxton finished with seven points.
For comparison, Claxton was tied with Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid who could also win the MVP award. Claxton finished second in the league in blocks per game (2.5) and fourth in the league in defensive win shares (4.0). Claxton made leaps and bounds in his game on both ends of the floor especially on defense.
