Nets’ Mikal Bridges on tough shooting day: ‘just kept shooting’

Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges is having his rough stretch of three-point shooting in his career right now, but he’ll keep firing.

NEW YORK — It has been a rough start to this season in terms of shooting the three-ball for Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges. As Brooklyn’s best player, Bridges has to find a way to make an impact on both ends of the floor for the Nets, but the offense has been tough to come by for him.

“Just kept shooting them,” Bridges said after scoring 27 points in Sunday’s 102-94 win over the Washington Wizards. However, Bridges shot just 11-of-29 from the field and 2-of-14 from three-point land in an offensive performance that was another reminder of how much he has been struggling with his three-point shots.

“Just missed a lot of threes,” Bridges said. “Threes just, you know, they just hurt, me just keep missing them. And, you know you’re missing them. So, just staying with it. Just trying to win the game.” After Sunday’s win over the Wizards, Bridges is now shooting just 30.2% from deep, which would be the worst of his career by far if that figure holds.

So far this season, everyone on the Nets, including head coach Jacque Vaughn, has encouraged Bridges to keep shooting despite how poorly he’s shooting from three right now. To make things more interesting, Vaughn said prior to Sunday that he would be okay with Bridges turning some of his bread-and-butter mid-range jumpshots into three-point shots, matching more of how Vaughn wants his team to attack on the offensive end.

It is a frustrating time for Bridges at the moment, but he will keep shooting and he will keep competing.
