Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges has been experiencing a star-like ascension in the NBA ever since he entered the league as the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Villanova University. While his stardom has only increased since coming to Brooklyn and playing like an All-Star, Bridges still remembers the lessons that his mother taught him as a growing young man.
Bridges recently made an appearance on “The Pivot” podcast with former NFL players Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder to discuss various topics, including what advice Bridges would give young men who have less-than-ideal social circles like Memphis Grizzlies superstar guard Ja Morant. Morant is currently serving a suspension by the Grizzlies for his second incident in two months in which the superstar was showing a gun on Instagram Live.
While Clark posed the question to Bridges in a general sense instead of giving advice to just Morant, the former Phoenix Sun gave a wonderful answer that Morant and others in similar situations should heed. Here’s what Bridges had to say about those who have social circles that aren’t conducive to success:
“My mom don’t play none of that. Even if I bring somebody around my mom, that’s just how it is. People are scared of my mom like, she don’t play none of that. As I got older, now like it’s funny because like, I feel like I’ll tell her all the time like I’m really becoming you… And, she’s laughing because I was never like that growing up because I was always like, even with just my friends, I was a nice person… But now like, I learned so much for her, I just like I don’t play none of that (expletive) no more so I’m in the league for a while now. So, I just understand when people will try to either like, not use me or like try to just be there just because like the famous stuff like I’ve been in and I know now and I’m just like, I’m cool bro.”
“I don’t play that sh*t”.
@mikal_bridges feels the older he gets the more he’s becoming his mother who Mikal describe as a “boss”. As Ja deals with backlash from his actions, Mikal understands the value of the foundation instilled by his mom@thepivothttps://t.co/e0f1H4Med0 pic.twitter.com/qZWyaQUXiW
