Nets’ Kevin Durant says ‘locking back in’ was key in blowout win over Warriors

Kevin Durant salutes the team for locking in after some bad defensive possessions in the early going.

Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant has been on quite a scoring tear lately. After scoring 23 points in the Nets’ 143-113 blowout win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, he is now up to 11 straight games of shooting over 50% from the field.

Durant has been an efficient scorer throughout his entire career, but the consistency that he has displayed this season has been nothing short of brilliant. Ironically, he is having one of his worst seasons shooting the three-ball, but he appears to be making up for that by being so efficient with his mid-range game.

The Warriors were depleted on Wednesday as they were without Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins. Durant and the Nets have been trying to be better in putting away overmatched teams early and to their credit, they did that in this game.

However, in the first few minutes of the game, Brooklyn was having defensive lapses that forced coach Jacque Vaughn to call a quick timeout to reset his team. After that, the Nets didn’t look back at any point in this game.

Durant spoke postgame about how he loves when Vaughn calls those early timeouts and what Vaughn says during those stoppages:

“Just lock back in. I mean, we understand we made a mistake, but to hear your coach come back in, everybody on the bench and the coaching staff reiterate what happened and we can watch it on the tablet and see, it’s always beneficial for us. I love when he does that. Keeps us on point, keeps the coaching staff and everyone on point.”

The Nets’ next game is Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
