Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant is ranked in fourth-place in NBA.com’s latest MVP rankings published earlier this week. The interesting about this piece is that Durant was in fifth place last week as the Nets continue to win games.
In Durant’s most recent game, a 108-107 win over the Atlanta Hawks, he had 26 points and a season-high 16 rebounds as Brooklyn needed every bit of production out of him in order to win the game. Durant has been incredible in leading Brooklyn to a 10-game winning streak and winning 14 of their last 15 games.
In this list, Durant is ranked behind Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, Denver’s Nikola Jokic, and Boston’s Jayson Tatum. For the season, the former Texas Longhorn is averaging 29.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game while shooting 56% from the field and 37% from three-point land.
Here’s what NBA.com’s Michael C. Wright had to say about Durant’s ranking in this list:
“Durant’s matchup with Antetokounmpo breaks the head-to-head tie between the two if we’re counting the playoffs. These two have matched up on 24 occasions total and the series is tied 12-12, with Antetokounmpo dialing up 43 points and 14 rebounds during an Oct. 26 Bucks victory. That Brooklyn team was vastly different than what we’re expecting Friday at Barclays Center, as Durant has led a Nets resurgence. Understandably, the league leader in total points (934) receives plenty of accolades for his offensive acumen. But he’s been a leader on the defensive end, too, logging eight steals in his last five games for a Nets squad that is 12-3 in clutch games this season.”
Brooklyn’s next game is Saturday at the Charlotte Hornets.
