Nets’ Jacque Vaughn to ‘play around’ with pairing of Ben Simmons and Spencer Dinwiddie

Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn said on Saturday that he’s playing around with lineups pairing Ben Simmons and Spencer Dinwiddie.

Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn is going into his first season of actually being able to lead the Nets from the beginning of training camp. With two preseason games down and two more to go, it seems that Vaughn is still experimenting with lineups that he could be using for this upcoming season.

Per Peter Botte of the New York Post, Vaughn said on Saturday that he can see lineups with Ben Simmons and Spencer Dinwiddie playing together on the floor during the season. Dinwiddie and Simmons did not play together last season so it looks like Vaughn is trying to see what the combination looks like.

So far, through two preseason games, Simmons and Dinwiddie appear to be able to play well together on the court, especially with Simmons looking like he’s back to his old self. However, it is still early in the preseason so time will tell what lineups will be used when the games still mattering.

Here’s more of what Vaughn had to say about playing Simmons and Dinwiddie together:

“I’ve tried to do a little bit of both. You saw there was a spell in the last game [Thursday against Maccabi Ra’anana] when Spencer and Ben were together. I think Spencer has the ability to space the floor for us and shoot 3s. And so, that is a weapon for us that we want to use. Those two on the floor, though, either one can get an outlet and push the ball up the floor.”
