Nets’ Jacque Vaughn says team is ‘still learning’ to play every possession

After Friday’s 110-104 loss to the Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn says the team is still learning consistency.

The Brooklyn Nets (15-17) have had an uneven season in terms of what the flow of the team is on any given week. Through 32 games, one of the qualities that the Nets have lacked throughout most of that span is consistency.

From the beginning, Brooklyn has dealt with injuries to at least two key rotation players, including point guard Ben Simmons, who has played just six games in this campaign mostly due to a nerve impingement in his lower back. Aside from the injuries, the Nets have also dealt with a persistent question of what the starting lineup should be because of the team’s struggles on the defensive end.

Friday’s 110-104 loss to the Washington Wizards was another example of Brooklyn struggling to get anything going right now. Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn began the game with a new starting lineup, with Dorian Finney-Smith replacing Cam Thomas, that had their share of struggles to close the game in the fourth quarter.

It’s clear that the players and Vaughn are frustrated as the only team that they have beaten over the past nine games has been the Detroit Pistons, who still haven’t won a game since October. Vaughn’s take on what is one of the main issues with the team is consistency within the game as well:

“I think we were up seven and the message was to really hone in on each possession on both ends of the floor and hopefully push this thing to double digits. And, the next thing you know, we’re down two. So, overall, our ability to do our jobs every single possession, we’re still learning that.”
