NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn did not speak for long after Thursday’s preseason win over Maccabi Ra’anana, but for the time that he spoke, he gave some important updates on some key players for the Nets.
Firstly, guard Dennis Smith Jr. went down towards the end of the first quarter with an left ankle injury after attempting a three to secure a two-for-one scenario. After walking slowly to the locker room, Smith Jr. was ruled out for the rest of the game before halftime. Vaughn said that X-Rays on Smith’s ankle were negative and that he will get scanned on Friday.
For Lonnie Walker IV, who suffered a right wrist contusion on Thursday, Vaughn said that the injury is “nothing serious.” Vaughn made sure to give Walker credit for how he played against Maccabi Ra’anana as he scored 12 points in eight minutes and scored those points in a variety of ways.
