Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks said during his end-of-season interview on Sunday that guard Ben Simmons won’t need another back surgery. Marks went on to say that Simmons is meeting the checkpoints for his rehab and as long as his rehab continues to go that way, Simmons should be ready for training camp.
Simmons played just 42 games this season after dealing with a variety of injuries, with most of them related to his back and knees. He came into this season after having back surgery in the offseason, but from what he looked like during this season, his recovery was still ongoing.
When Simmons did play, he looked like a shell of his former self. He lacked explosiveness and confidence for the most part, but there were times where Simmons showed flashes of the guy that was an All-Star during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers. As Brooklyn goes into this offseason, they will also have to figure out how Simmons fits into their future.
Sean Marks on Ben Simmons: "He is checking the boxes & meeting these different markers along the way. So at this point, he does not need surgery. That is the hope going forward, that he will not have to endure another surgery." #Nets
