Nets’ Edmond Sumner doesn’t ‘make excuses’ for missing star players

Edmond Sumner won’t make excuses for being short-handed because he expects to win every game.

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Edmond Sumner is like head coach Jacque Vaughn in that neither guy makes excuses. Similar to Vaughn, Sumner doesn’t care about any circumstances that are outside of the basketball court.

“We’re not gonna make excuses for who’s out there, who’s not out there,” Sumner said after scoring 29 points and dishing out three assists in Saturday’s 125-123 win over the Washington Wizards. “That’s just an easy cop-out. We all professionals, we all NBA players, we all work out every day. We in the gym, in the lab. So, us making excuses for who’s out there or not, we got to get the job done.”

Sumner has had an inconsistent role on the Nets this season because of superstar Kyrie Irving being available for most of this season. However, Sumner got to show what he is capable one more time thanks to Irving sitting out because of right calf soreness.
