Nets’ Cam Thomas was ‘just playing the game’ in preseason opener

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas scored 26 points in Monday’s preseason opener and he said that he was just “playing the game.”

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas comes into the 2023-24 season with a lot of expectations for what he can do this season if given enough time on the floor. Nets fans were already excited coming into Monday’s preseason opener before finding out that Thomas would be in the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Lakers.

What happened on Monday was a great sign for everyone to see, even though it was something that Nets fans have seen from Thomas plenty of times over the past two seasons. In 22 minutes, Thomas scored 26 points and picked up two assists in a contest in which he appeared to show an improved ability in passing the ball as he hit cutters multiple times with pinpoint passes.

It wouldn’t be a high-scoring Cam Thomas game without a back-and-forth between him and a player on the opposing team for who is the better bucket-getter. At one point in the middle of the third quarter, Thomas exchanged three-pointers with the Lakers’ Austin Reaves and it was quite a show to watch.

As all Nets fans know, Thomas is confident in his scoring ability and he’s willing to go against anybody when it comes to seeing who the better scorer is. Thomas said after the game that he was just doing what the game was telling him to:

“I was just playing the game, man. I was just playing a game. Whatever the game need, I was going to do. I made a few passes and the second half is when my scoring got going. So, I was just reading the game, playing the game.”
