Cam Thomas has seen his star rise this season after becoming a superstar-level scorer once he entered the starting lineup for the Brooklyn Nets due to injuries to Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton. After suffering an ankle injury against the Los Angeles Clippers, Thomas has been working his way back into his scoring role on Nov. 30.
While Thomas has not had the scoring efficiency that he had prior to his ankle injury, he still has found ways to make an impact during his floor time. Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns gave Thomas the chance to talk about another role that he had early in his career: learning from being teammates with Kevin Durant.
Thomas was on the same team as Durant for one-and-a-half seasons until Durant was traded last season to the Suns for a package that brought Mikal Bridges and Johnson. While Thomas built a friendship with Durant and learned a lot from him, Durant being dealt gave Thomas the opportunity to show everyone what he could do now that the superstar had left town.
The two faced off against each other for the first time since the trade happened and while Durant had the better outing, Thomas’ team won the game. With the win taken care of, Thomas spoke afterwards about his experience having Durant as a teammate:
“It was cool. I mean, coming into the league, you want to play against the guys like that (Durant). Obviously, I had the luxury of him being my teammate for a year and a half. So, you know, I’m thankful for that.”
