Nets’ Cam Thomas says ‘starting off slow’ was reason for loss to Spurs

Cam Thomas says that the Nets starting off slow was the reason for Tuesday’s loss to the Spurs.

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has had an inconsistent role for the Nets this season. Despite being arguably one of the more talented scorers on the team, he has played in only 28 of 43 games this season. For the games that he didn’t play, it was because of head coach Jacque Vaughn not putting him in the game at all.

However, with injuries to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Vaughn had different plans for Thomas. In Tuesday’s 106-98 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Thomas came off the bench to score 15 points in 30 minutes and looked good doing so.

Thomas’ primary role for Brooklyn is to provide a scoring punch off the bench when called upon. Thomas did that and then some on Tuesday. He spoke after the game about why the Nets lost such a winnable game to the Spurs:

“I feel like we had good energy. We started off slow in both quarters so it gives a team like that confidence that they can play with us. Really, we just got to start games way better. Start the first better and the third better. Set the momentum of the game and set the tone so we just have better starts.”
