NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets have been starving for a win and they finally got it by beating the Houston Rockets 106-104 on Saturday. However, with the team blowing a 28-point lead to narrowly win the game by two points, it seems difficult to look past the fourth quarter troubles plaguing the Nets right now. Brooklyn guard Cam Thomas sees it differently.
“It’s definitely a positive that if we come out like we did (in the first quarter), come out aggressive, fast, defend really well, that’s what could happen against any team we play,” Thomas said after putting up 37 points and three assists in the win over the Rockets. Thomas started this game since forward Cam Johnson did not play due to personal reasons.
Thomas was on fire from the beginning as he scored 22 points in the first half to get Brooklyn off to one of its best starts in any game this season. However, starting with the second period, Houston either tied Brooklyn and won the quarter, including a fourth quarter in which the Rockets won the period 34-18 to bring the game dangerously close to a loss for the Nets.
“The way the possessions are, it’s so fast, you know? Teams can get hot from three and they’re back in the game just like that, like y’all saw. So, we just got to stay locked in it. Try to put teams away early instead of just giving away some possessions,” Thomas said. The hope is that this win can give the Nets more confidence to finish fourth quarters better moving forward.
