Nets’ Cam Thomas feels team ‘had a good stretch’ heading into February

After Wednesday’s 136-120 loss to the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas said that the team ‘had a good stretch’ to end January.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets have not won many games lately as it seems that they have hit the low point in their season. With the trade deadline just weeks away, it seems that Brooklyn may have to make something happen in the trade market if they want to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

“Yeah, I feel like we had a good stretch,” Nets guard Cam Thomas said after dropping 25 points and four assists in Wednesday’s 136-120 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Wednesday represented a lot for Brooklyn as Kevin Durant returned to Barclays Center for the first time since he was traded to the Suns last season along with the fact that guard Ben Simmons is back on the shelf for the Nets for the time being.

“This game, obviously, kind of tough. They got three all-world scorers, so it was tough,” Thomas said. Brooklyn was missing three of their bigger players in the rotation and the Suns took advantage of that by playing off of Durant (33 points) and Jusuf Nurkic (28 points).

The loss dropped the Nets to a 4-10 record for the month of January and while they made some strides on the defensive end of the floor (eighth in the NBA in defensive rating for January), their offense continues to be an issue (24th). Ultimately, Wednesday showed that Brooklyn is missing some important depth, but that they should be a better team moving forward into February.
