Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson is coming off a 2023-24 season in which few people on the team played as some in the fanbase expected, including him following his big payday last summer. Despite last season being a disappointing one for the franchise, Johnson has found a way to unwind from that during this long offseason.
Over the weekend, Johnson picked up a basketball and laced up his sneakers, but not for the Nets. Per Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Johnson participated in Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s celebrity basketball game as part of an important weekend for his charity, Chasing M’s Foundation.
Johnson, like Hamlin, is from Pennsylvania and Hamlin’s idea for his charity weekend was bringing together as many people either from or representing the state in some way to make the event more homegrown, so to speak. In addition to Johnson, Hamlin was able to get people such as former Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson.
Johnson, shown in the “X” post below, has let his beard grow and had a highlight moment from rapper Gillie Da Kid as the two connected for an alley-oop dunk on a fastbreak. As Brooklyn goes through this offseason hoping to add talent to the team and improve enough to make it back to the playoffs next season, Johnson is one of the players that is keeping himself busy.
