Nets’ Cam Johnson on beating the Hawks: ‘gotta love the back-and-forth’

Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson said after Wednesday’s win over the Atlanta Hawks that he loved the ‘back-and-forth’ nature of the game.

The Brooklyn Nets have had many games this season that were considered to be winnable given that they haven’t suffered many blowouts this season, one way or the other. Wednesday was yet another case of that as the Nets may have found a team that is as even with them as any other team in the NBA.

In Wednesday’s 114-113 win over the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn found itself in another nip-and-tuck kind of game despite the fact that Atlanta did not shoot nearly as well this time around as they did in the first matchup. However, to that point, the Nets did not shoot the ball as well either.

According to the Nets’ “X” account, Wednesday’s contest featured 43 lead changes, the most in any game since play-by-play began being tracked in the 1996-97 season. This illustrates how hard both teams were competing and how much the Nets wanted to give Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson their first win against the Hawks.

Johnson more than did his part by putting up 17 points and six rebounds and was crucial for Brooklyn in the first half. Johnson scored just two points in the second half, but by that point, Bridges was well on his way to a 32-point outing as one twin passed off the game to the other.

Here’s some of what Johnson had to say Wednesday’s back-and-forth game against Atlanta:

“No, it’s basketball and you got to love it. You got to love the back-and-forth. Even basketball games where you’re just kind of throwing blows back-and-forth and are the moments you love as a competitor.”
