The Brooklyn Nets are working through a lot of injuries and kinks to begin their 2020-21 season. They just lost one of their main contributors in Spencer Dinwiddie who is out for the season due to a partially torn ACL which is going to hurt Brooklyn’s depth to begin the season.
In order to try and recover a roster spot and get somebody to replace Dinwiddie, the Nets are going to apply for a Disabled Player Exception worth $5.7 million. General manager Sean Marks and the Nets can use a slot to acquire a player in the final year of his deal. Of course, Brooklyn would need to clear a roster spot in order to use it if they are to be granted the exception. Also, the full use of the DPE would elevate their tax bill to $4.3 million.
