It was a big Tuesday night for the No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team. After starting off the season with a 7-0 record, the Huskers traveled west for their first major test of 2023, No. 5 Stanford. Nebraska last beat the Cardinal back in 2008, losing the last five meetings.
This time around, the Huskers emerged victorious, taking down Stanford 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 19-25, 25-21) in California, a first in school history. The win was well earned as the stats were nearly even for the match, with Nebraska getting a slight advantage.
The Huskers finished the night with 52 kills, 16 attack errors, 38 digs, 11 blocks and an attack percentage of .333. Stanford finished with 48 kills, 22 attack errors, 30 digs, eight blocks and an attack percentage of .218.
Florida transfer Merritt Beason and freshman Harper Murray led the way for Nebraska offensively. Beason finished with 15 kills off 33 attacks for an attack percentage of .273. Murray also hit double-digit kills, racking up 12 off 24 attacks for an attack percentage of .417. Murray even finished the match with three service aces.
Freshman Bergen Reilly led the way in assists for the Huskers, finishing with 37 in the win. Lexi Rodriguez finished with the team in digs, snatching 12 on the night. Another notable performance was from middle blocker Bekka Allick, who finished with a team-high eight blocks, along with seven kills off 12 attacks.
Nebraska now moves to 8-0 on the season, their best start since 2016. The Huskers will conclude their non-conference portion of the season on Sunday when they return home and face off against No. 22 Kentucky. The match is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.
