On Tuesday, Nebraska transfer Casey Rogers released his top three schools via his Twitter account. Auburn was one of the schools listed with both Oregon and USC in the mix as well.
It is unclear if Rogers has made a trip to the Plains. However, he has made visits to both Eugene and Los Angeles over the course of the last two weeks. One thing to factor in is the fact that Auburn could likely provide more playing time to Rogers.
The New York native came out of high school at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds. Now, he stands at 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds. With that size, he could play both in the interior for the Tigers’ defense and off the edge in some aspects. The opportunity to play in the SEC could also make a difference in his decision. There has been no official decision date set for his announcement, so it is possible that he makes the trip from Lincoln to Auburn.
Over the course of his college career, Rogers has been impactful for the Cornhuskers. He has recorded 42 tackles, six tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in the three seasons he spent in Lincoln. With the Tigers having a good defensive front, he would likely be a rotational player. He would provide depth at the position. The starters on the defensive line will likely consist of Marcus Harris, Jayson Jones, Colby Wooden, and Derrick Hall. Rogers would more than likely be behind Marcus Harris in the defensive tackle spot.
Add in Rogers to the fold would only solidify the Tigers’ front seven heading into the 2022 season. Head coach [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] hasn’t granted anyone a starting role. He wants his players to earn it. With the summer practices approaching, Rogers could make a name for himself and be an instant contributor on the defensive front.
He did mention in his tweet that an “Announcement (was) coming soon!” Rogers joined the Cornhuskers program in 2018, but has only played in three seasons. He has two years of eligibility remaining with the additional COVID year being granted by the NCAA.
Wherever he elects to go, Rogers will be a redshirt junior. Auburn would certainly love to add him to their defense as he brings depth and much-needed experience.
