The Huskers continued their momentous 2023 campaign with a Sweet Sixteen showdown against UC Irvine. For the first time since 1999, Nebraska took victory to advance to the Elite Eight.
The Huskers fired off on all-cylinders on offense, finishing with 25 shots and nine on goal. Though the Anteaters only earned 11 shots in the match, eight were on goal. But Sami Hauk faced seven of those shots on goal and stopped all of them, helping to complete the shutout.
Abbey Schwarz struck first for Nebraska, scoring under 14 minutes into the match, putting the Huskers up early. Eleanor Dale then made history, scoring two of Nebraska’s following three goals, setting a new school record for goals in a season. Dale leads the nation with 28 goals on the season, surpassing Kim Engesser, who set the record back in 1998 with 27.
Haley Peterson rounded out Nebraska’s scoring field, nailing her first goal of the season off a corner kick.
Nebraska advances to the Elite Eight and will play either Stanford or Mississippi State. The match time and date are to be determined.
