Nebraska will continue in their quest for bowl eligibility this weekend when the Huskers travel to Madison to face the Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers are also breaking in a new head coach, Luke Fickell.
Fickell joined Wisconsin after spending the previous six seasons at Cincinnati. The current Badger head coach has a history with Nebraska as Fickell coached against the Huskers in 2011 when he acted as the interim head coach at Ohio State.
The Cornhuskers would win that game 34-27. Head coach Matt Rhule has high praise for Fickell and the work he’s done wherever he goes.
“They’re a really good football team with really good players. Big. Physical. Raw Athletic. Explosive. Luke Fickell is an excellent football coach. I don’t know him great but I know him well enough. We never really crossed paths. I left the American. We’ve become friendly over time.”
Nebraska will be looking to end their losing streak to the Badgers. Wisconsin is currently on a nine-game winning streak against the Huskers.
The Badgers lead the all-time series with Nebraska 12-4. Rhule says he’s excited about his first trip as a coach to Madison, Wisconsin.
“I’ve been to Madison once as a player, never as a coach. Cold. National TV. Jump Around. Unbelievable experience. Coach (Barry) Alvarez. It should be awesome. I’m excited about it. They’re an excellent football team. It’ll be a lot like the other games. It’ll come down to the fourth quarter. We’ll try to make one more play than them. They’ll have to make one more play than us. We’ll see who does it.”
Nebraska and Wisconsin will face off on Saturday at 6:30 from Camp Randall Stadium. The game can be seen on NBC. Find photos from last year’s game against Wisconsin below.
