The Big Ten Conference named Nebraska football quarterback Dylan Raiola the Freshman of the Week on Monday. Raiola went 19-of-27 last Saturday, throwing for 238 yards and two touchdowns.
Nebraska was able to roll to a 40-7 victory over the UTEP Miners at Memorial Stadium. The win marked the program’s first opening-day victory since the 2019 season. The quarterback completed passes to 11 different targets, showing off his strong arm and playmaking ability.
Raiola is the first Nebraska football player to win Big Ten Freshman of the Week since Malcolm Hartzog Jr. in 2022. He is also the first offensive player to win the award since Wan’Dale Robinson in 2019.
The signal-caller will face a tough test against the Colorado Buffaloes this coming Saturday. Nebraska is looking for their first win over Colorado since 2010.
Raiola undoubtedly still has room to grow as a college quarterback. Nevertheless, this award is certainly a strong start to his collegiate career.
