During his time with the media this week, Nebraska offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield was asked about the performance of true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola against UTEP.
Unsurprisingly, Satterfield was highly complimentary of Raiola’s performance. Against the Miners, Raiola completed 70.4% of his passes for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
“The number one thing was the operation, the rhythm of the offense, and taking care of the football. He did all three of those,” Satterfield said. “I thought he did. Talking about a culture of excellence, he was prepared, he knew exactly where the ball needed to go. He was accurate with the ball, took care of the ball,” he added.
Like Nebraska fans and the media, Satterfield was excited to see such a performance from the potential rising star quarterback, especially given that the young signal-caller never tried to do too much.
“I was really excited to see it because I knew coming out of that tunnel walk was a lot of years, a lot of memories and a lot of days of anticipation and excitement,” he said. “I was hoping that he was able to come out and just play like he does. You get nervous that sometimes a young guy tries to do too much. It’s just too emotional, but he was like a surgeon. It was amazing to see his maturity. He’s way beyond his years from that standpoint.”
Raiola will now have the opportunity to lead the Huskers to a 2-0 start this Saturday as the Colorado Buffaloes come to town.
