Nebraska looking to add former Bama safety to its defense

The Huskers remain busy with the transfer portal, and this time they’re looking to add help in the secondary.

Nebraska continues to look for talent wherever they can find it, and the one place where the Huskers have had success this offseason is the transfer portal. The last week alone had proven fruitful when Ochaun Mathis and Devin Drew announced their transfer commitments. Now Nebraska is looking to add some help in the secondary, and they may have found their man in transfer Alabama safety Kaine Williams. The Louisiana native was part of the 2021 recruiting class and was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, according to 247sports. He signed with ‘Bama over other SEC schools such as Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

In his one season in Tuscaloosa, Williams appeared in one game, the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, and recorded no stats in his time on the field. However, coming out of high school, Williams had an impressive resume. He had 52 tackles, ten tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and three fumble recoveries during his senior prep season. Now Williams has announced via social media that he will be visiting Lincoln this month, May 13-15.

A scholarship offer has been made to the defensive back. Still, he’s proven to be a popular guy as he also has announced offers from Temple, Kansas, Indiana, and Buffalo, with more offers expected in the coming days. It’s another example of Nebraska using its resources not just to try and bring in talent but win right now talent. Williams might be one of those guys. Still, with almost no time on the field last year, we’ll have to wait and see how he performs, no matter who he might be playing for this season. No word on when a commitment announcement might take place, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
