On Wednesday, Nebraska’s top linebacker target Dawson Merritt, a consensus four-star prospect out of Blue Valley High School in Overland Park, Kansas, officially committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The decision doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as experts around the recruiting industry have been projecting Merritt to land with the Crimson Tide over the last week.
That being said, Merritt was a top target for Matt Rhule and his defensive staff and is a tough hit for the Huskers on the recruiting trail.
Merritt took an official visit to Nebraska in April, but the Crimson Tide had the last say in his recruitment when they hosted him earlier in June for an official visit in Tuscaloosa.
Despite the loss on the recruiting trail, the Huskers are putting together a well-rounded 2025 recruiting class. They currently hold 11 commitments, including notable commitments from quarterback TJ Lateef, running back Jamarion Parker, and defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson.
